Programming tool
Programming tools are computer programs that support software developers in their activities of programming computer programs.
Such tools are provided in the IT development environment and used, for example, for the following purposes:
- for creating and changing the source code of programs: text editors
- for the design of graphical user interfaces (screen or report layouts): Special GUI editors
- to translate the source text into executable machine language : compiler , assembler
- for testing and troubleshooting : test tools, debuggers
- For storing and managing programs and program documents: version management systems
In addition to these specialized tools for program production in the narrower sense, other tools are used for upstream and downstream activities in the software development process, for example for data modeling , for project management , for documentation management and many others.
Tools that support several of these disciplines are integrated development environments (IDE for short).
