Sogakofe
Sogakofe (also Sogakope ) is a small town in southeast Ghana and the administrative seat of the South Tongu District in the Volta Region . The place has about 5000 inhabitants (2007).
Geographical location
The place is on the eastern bank of the lower reaches of the Volta about 35 km north of its confluence with the Gulf of Guinea . The national road N1 from Accra to Lomé in Togo crosses the Volta at Sogakofe on the "Lower Volta Bridge" and leads through the village.
Football academy
The place gained a certain prominence from 2006 when Red Bull GmbH took over an existing soccer school there and founded the club “Red Bull Ghana” with an attached soccer academy. The purpose of the soccer school was to introduce young West African players to the clubs in Europe supported by Red Bull. In the summer of 2013, Red Bull closed the academy due to lack of success. In August 2014 it was merged with the football school in Fetteh near Accra, which has been supported by Feyenoord Rotterdam since 1998 , and has since operated under the name " West African Football Academy ".
