The Waldpolenz solar park is located on the site of the former Soviet military airfield in Brandis , east of the city of Leipzig . It is a large photovoltaic system .

history

The system was built by juwi Solar from Rhineland-Palatinate on an area of ​​142 hectares and was built between April 2007 and the end of 2009. In 2011 the system was expanded. The construction cost around 180 million euros and was financed by a solar fund and by Sachsen LB.

When it went into operation in August 2009, the solar park was Germany's largest photovoltaic system and the second largest such system in the world.

Technical specifications

The system consists of around 700,000 thin-film modules from First Solar and inverters from SMA Solar and Power-One Inc. The capacity is 52  MWp , and around 15,000 households can be supplied with it.

The grid connection takes place at the 20 kV medium voltage level in the power grid of the distribution network operator Mitteldeutsche Netzgesellschaft Strom mbH .
