SolidarMed

SolidarMed is a Swiss association that is committed to health care and the long-term development of health services in Africa . The priority countries are: Lesotho , Mozambique , Tanzania , Zambia and Zimbabwe .

The association, based in Lucerne , was founded in 1926 as the Swiss Catholic Association for Medical Missionary Care , renamed the Swiss Catholic Missionary Medical Association in 1953 and in 1987 as SolidarMed - Christian Service for Medical Cooperation .

With the development, improvement and long-term security of basic medical care, SolidarMed makes a significant contribution to ensuring that the right to health can also be redeemed by people in the poorest countries in Africa and that health can become effective as a development factor. This is done through:

  • Comprehensive health programs to fight HIV / AIDS, malaria, cholera, tuberculosis, etc.
  • Hospital partnerships e.g. B. by developing business plans
  • Strengthen the management of health systems at the district level
  • Promotion of the education and training of health workers z. B. by building schools
  • Support of local initiatives in health promotion and prevention
  • Support from partner hospitals e.g. B. with specialist staff

The Swiss national soccer player Stephan Lichtsteiner (since 2009), the radio and television presenter Nik Hartmann (since 2009), the model Nadine Strittmatter (since 2012) and the mountain bike Olympic champion Nino Schurter (since 2017) act as ambassadors for SolidarMed .

SolidarMed is ZEWO certified.
