The Solingen Ordinance is a German statutory ordinance that protects the name Solingen as an indication of origin for cutlery from the cities of Solingen and Haan .

Accordingly, this designation may only be used in business dealings for cutlery that has been processed and completed in all essential manufacturing stages within the Solingen industrial area, whereby the Solingen industrial area consists of the two cities mentioned. The term cutlery is very broad: the non-exhaustive list in § 3 of the ordinance includes not only scissors , knives and blades but also table and kitchen tools such as cake servers and corkscrews , shaving accessories and edged weapons .

The Solingen Ordinance is the successor to the law for the protection of the name Solingen (Solingen Act) and the associated implementing and supplementary ordinance of the Reich Minister of Economics of July 25, 1938, which legally protected the name Solingen for cutlery for the first time. Only with the reform of the Trademark Act in 1994 was this law repealed and replaced by the Solingen Ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Justice on the basis of the authorization of Section 137 Trademark Act. Solingen is the only city name in the world that is legally protected.
