The MK 40 is a Mokick with a two-stroke engine from the Solo Kleinmotoren brand .

It was manufactured in Aveiro (Portugal) by Metalurgia Casal SARL. At Solo, only the engine cover and the decoration set of the machines supplied by Casal were added. These mokicks were then sold by Kaufhof Warenhaus AG. The identical model was sold under the name MARS MS 40 via the mail order company Quelle . Essentially, these two models only differed in the type of paintwork (the Mars had a chrome tank) and the name.

The 91 kilogram heavy Mokick is powered by a 2.7 HP (2 kW) engine with a displacement of 49 cm³. Shifting takes place via a four-speed gearbox that is operated by foot. The engine produced by Casal was a license replica of the Zündapp GTS 50 .

In addition, the Mokick can be equipped with the following additional equipment independently of one another: frame support, crash bar and a direction indicator. The MK 40 offers space for two passengers.

The SOLO MK 40 was the only mokick with a duplex brake and aluminum high shoulder rims .

The machine was produced from around 1978. A few years later a revised version followed with turn signals and a reinforced alternator. The engine of the MK 40 II has also been further developed; more efficient combustion ensures more power.

The MK 40 is a classic car and has hardly been available for years. Spare parts are difficult or even impossible to get. Replacement papers are still available from Solo today.

Bearing sets for the CASAL engine are now being offered in internet auctions. Skilled screwdrivers can thus repair the engine, which has similarities with Zündapp. The CASAL engine is an independent development by CASAL, the "root" of which came from the GTS-50 engine from Zündapp. The crankshaft journals have a diameter of 17 mm.

Through the Internet it is possible to obtain spare parts from various dealers and private individuals in a Portuguese classified ad section. The matching cylinders are particularly interesting because they are unthrottled. In Germany, due to state regulations, appropriate throttling had to be carried out so that the permissible maximum speed according to the applicable StVZO is not exceeded.
