Life
Solomon Aviad Sar Shalom Basilea was born in Mantua around 1680 as the son of the local rabbi. He received his traditional training from the city's most learned Jews, including Juda ben Eliezer Briel and Mose Zacuto . He also studied geometry and astronomy. In 1729 he was appointed rabbi of Mantua. He soon began studying Lurian Kabbalism.
In 1733 he was charged with possession of unauthorized books and sentenced to one year in prison. He was then placed under house arrest and was no longer allowed to leave the ghetto.
In the dispute over the Kabbalist Moshe Chaim Luzzatto , he vehemently sided with him. The main work of Basilea is Emunat Hachamim (the belief of / in the wise), which appeared in Mantua in 1739.
He died in 1749, according to other sources in 1743.
