Somali Patriotic Movement

The Somali Patriotic Movement or Somali Patriotic Movement (SPM) is a war party in the Somali civil war that was founded in 1989 and is active in southern Somalia in the Jubbada Hoose region around the city of Kismaayo . She left the clan of the Darod , especially from the Ogadeni-Subclan, produced and directed as one of several rebel movements against the authoritarian government of Somalia under Siad Barre .

After the fall of Barres, the SPM split into two factions: While the SPM-Ogadeni or SPM-SNA joined the Somali National Alliance and its leader Mohammed Farah Aidid in 1992 , the SPM-Harti fought under Aden Abdullahi Nur Gabyow and Siad Hersi (unsuccessful) for a return barres.

In 1998 the SPM-Harti proclaimed the independence of the southwestern part of Somalia as Jubaland . However, their main adversary in the region, the Juba Valley Alliance , pushed them back.
