The Somalia galago ( Galago gallarum ) is a species of primate from the Galagos family (Galagonidae).

features

Somalia Galagos, like all Galagos, are very small primates. They reach a head body length of 13 to 20 centimeters, the tail is significantly longer with 20 to 29 centimeters. Their fur is gray-brown in color, with the underside being slightly lighter. The eyes are enlarged to accommodate a nocturnal lifestyle. The ears are also large, they are hairless and mobile.

distribution and habitat

Somalia-Galagos are native to eastern Africa , their range includes southern Somalia , southern Ethiopia and northeastern Kenya . Their habitat are dry savannahs and bushlands. They inhabit drier habitats than any other Galagos, even than any other African primate.

Way of life

Little is known about the way these animals live. They are nocturnal and move quickly climbing and jumping through the branches. They live solitary or in small groups. Their diet consists mainly of insects , possibly supplemented with tree sap.

Danger

Somalia Galagos are adaptable and can survive even in human-influenced areas. The IUCN therefore lists the species as "not endangered" ( least concern ).
