Sompol Kukasemky

Sompol Kukasemkij ( Thai : สมพล คู เกษม กิจ ; * January 24, 1963 ) is a former Thai badminton player . He was one of the major players in the sport in Thailand in the late 1980s and early 1990s .

Athletic career

In 1992 Sompol Kukasemkij started in the men's singles at the Olympics. There he won his first round match against Anders Nielsen , but lost in the second round to Alan Budikusuma . In 1990 he had already won the Thailand Open in his home country . In 1985 he was eliminated from the World Cup in the round of 16 against Prakash Padukone . Two years earlier, he was the winner at the top of the podium at the Swiss Open .

He won nationally for the first time at the Thai championships in 1984 in men's singles. Eight more titles followed by 1993.
