Sona Diabaté

Sona Diabaté (* 1959 in Tiro , Guinea ) is a West African singer.

Her father was the singer Hadji Djeli Fodé Diabaté , who taught her not only to sing but also to play the balafon . After school she started a career as a griot singer. After meeting Miriam Makeba (who was living in Guinea at the time), she joined Africa's first women's band, Les Amazones de Guinée .

In 1996 the song Garé-Garé reached number 3 on the World Music Charts Europe .

She was also a guest at the Würzburg Africa Festival . In Europe she performed in the world music group Argile .
