background

In the early 1980s, the Colombian government came to the conclusion that the successful implementation of a national security policy would have to lead to a new security scenario, forcing criminal organizations to change their behavior in order to ensure their survival. While there has been advances in citizen security over the years, the threats have not disappeared and have therefore shifted according to their criminal logic.

So it was urgently necessary to found a special unit in the form of an elite force. This happened in 1984. The aim was also to guarantee training standards at the highest possible level. Only in this way could it be ensured in the long term that with training, competence, professionalism, resources and skills, a leading role in the smashing of criminal structures is realized so that the peace of the inhabitants of the country and the stability and order of the seriously endangered institutions are not questioned become.
