Special trip (elevator)

"Special trip" on the outside display of an elevator

A special trip (also preferential trip ) for elevators is the preference for people or goods. There are two types of special trips, once the special trip in the elevator and once the request from outside.

Special trips are usually displayed on the outside display of the car to show the other users that the car is not in normal operation and that the stairs may be used faster. In the car, a text such as "Please leave elevator" is often displayed, sometimes supported by a tape announcement .

In the elevator car

Terminal of a destination control

A special trip in the cabin allows you to drive to the specified destination without stopping. For this purpose, all commands stored in the respective cabin are usually deleted and the previously driven direction of travel is changed automatically if necessary.

The special elevator ride is generally a key switch part but triggered in the cabin, also previously stored key commands. In elevators with destination control , the special trip request is entered at the terminal in front of the elevator; this function is usually protected with a code, a transponder card or a key switch in order to avoid misuse.

But there are also elevator models in which the special trip is triggered automatically. This is the case with some models, for example, when the maximum load capacity has been reached and no other people can get on. Many hospitals have automatic bed recognition, which recognizes a bed either through a transponder on the bed, a contact loop or a certain weight so that the elevator triggers a special trip by itself.

Preferred landing call

With some elevators there is also the option of requesting a cabin preferentially. This request is given either by a key switch on the elevator or on the terminal of the destination control, but can also be done by a switch z. B. be triggered at the porter or in the hospital ward. The process is sometimes very different, depending on how it was previously saved.

The most common special trip is the so-called emergency request , in which the nearest car is driven directly to the floor called. All car calls are deleted and the direction of travel is also irrelevant (example: ambulance service for emergency patients, fire brigade ). A distinction must be made between the so-called preferential requirement , in which the cabin either makes all previously given car calls and then drives to the called station or the cabin makes all calls to the called station and ends there (example: non-emergency patients in the hospital).

Usually no calls can be accepted from outside in the cabin after the special trip request. The unlocking then takes place either by a special trip in the cabin or after a predetermined time. This mechanism is intended to prevent the car from leaving again before the authorized persons arrive, but the car is not permanently blocked, for example if it is accidentally triggered.

application

The application is very diverse. The special trip (inside) is often used when the elevator is fully loaded and no other people should get on. This is the case, for example, when moving or delivering goods. This avoids unnecessary stops and saves time. The special trip can therefore be used in both residential and commercial buildings.

Hospitals

In hospitals where bed elevators are also used by people, there is usually a special trip control. Since the elevator is often already full when transporting patients and it is not desirable that other people get on, the elevator is blocked by means of a special trip. An emergency control is often also available. This is used in medical emergencies such. B. used by the doctors or the resuscitation team to get to the affected patient as quickly as possible . But the elevator can also be requested to take the affected patient to the intensive care unit or the operating room, for example . A special feature here is that in many hospitals there is an emergency switch in the nurses' room, via which the elevator can be called before the panel is reached - the cabin is already on the floor. Often, normal ambulance transports by means of special trips are preferred to normal people in order to keep the waiting times for patients and ambulance personnel as short as possible.

Commercial buildings and hotels

In order for the board of directors in large companies and invited guests to find a waiting booth immediately, an elevator can usually be called via a button at the porter or the reception.

In many hotels, even celebrity guests have the option of requesting a cabin immediately via reception.

Banks

In some banks , the special control is also used to ensure that nobody can get into the elevator while money and valuables are being transported , and that the cabin always moves to a station that can only be selected by staff, in which the valuables transport vehicle is then parked. In shopping centers, too, the special trip control is sometimes used for this purpose.
