Song Shan

The Mountain Song , ( Chinese  嵩山 , Pinyin Sōng Shān ), in China is one of the Five Sacred Mountains of Daoism , of which it is the "Great Middle Peak" (also "Middle Mountain ").

Song Shan is located in the administrative area of ​​the urban district Dengfeng (登封 市), which in turn is subordinate to the urban district Zhengzhou , the capital of Henan Province . The highest point of the mountain south of the Yellow River is 1500 m.

There are many Taoist and especially Buddhist monasteries on the mountain and in its vicinity . These include the Shaolin chan Buddhist monastery, which is famous for its martial arts " Shaolin Quanfa ", and the Daoist Zhongyue temple , which has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 2001 .
