Sonja Ludvigsen

Sonja Aase Ludvigsen (born February 7, 1928 in Vestby ; † July 12, 1974 ) was a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). From 1973 to 1974 she was the social minister of her country.

Life

In 1946 she graduated from a commercial school. She then worked as an office assistant until 1947. From 1947 she was employed in the Vestby local government.

In the period from 1955 to 1959, and again from 1963 to 1972, Ludvigsen was a member of the local parliament of Vestby. Between 1958 and 1964 she was a member of the board of directors of the youth organization Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking (AUF). In 1965 she moved into the Norwegian parliament, the Storting , for the first time . There she represented Akershus Province until her death in 1974 . Between October 1965 and September 1969, she was Vice-Secretary of Parliament and from 1971 to 1973 the chairwoman of the Social Committee. From 1967 to 1974 she was the chairwoman of the women's association in the Ap.

On October 16, 1973, she was appointed Minister of Social Affairs in the Bratteli II government. She held the office until her death on July 12, 1974, when she succumbed to cancer. She was already on leave from April 16, 1974 and was represented by Tor Halvorsen . She was buried in an honorary funeral of the Norwegian state. Minister of State Trygve Bratteli stated in his farewell speech that Ludvigsen accepted the office as minister, even though she already knew that she was sick.
