Sonny Costanzo

Dominic "Sonny" Costanzo (born October 7, 1932 in New York City , † December 30, 1993 in New Haven (Connecticut) ) was an American jazz trombonist and big band leader .

Live and act

Costanzo worked in the bands and orchestras of Les and Larry Elgart , Woody Herman , the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra , the Kai Winding -Septet and 1968–1978 in the Clark Terry Big Band, before founding the Sonny Costanzo Big Band in 1979 . With her he played in the style of the Count Basie Orchestra , accompanied Tony Bennett and performed mainly in the northeastern United States. Soloists in the 17-piece orchestra were Costanzo, the trumpeters Jeff Holmes and Gaeton Veilleux, the tenor saxophonist Dick Burlant and the alto saxophonist Sal Libero. He also worked in Czechoslovakia in the 1980s , where he worked with Kamil Hálas Jazzový orchestr Československého rozhlasu (radio jazz orchestra) and Laco Déczi's formation Jazz Celula .
