Soochow University (Taiwan)

The Soochow University ( Chinese  東吳大學 , Pinyin Dongwu Daxue ) is a private university in Taipei . Although the college has a Methodist background, it is now a secular university. The university is particularly known for its law school. In 2005, 13,100 students were enrolled.

history

The original Soochow University was founded in 1900 by Methodists , including the missionary Young John Allen , in Suzhou (formerly the alternative legend Soochow ) in Jiangsu Province on mainland China. At that time, three institutions were merged: the Po-hsi Academy, the Kung-hsiang Academy and the Chung-hsi Academy. After the Chinese civil war , members of the Soochow alumni organization fled to Taiwan and founded Soochow University in Taipei in addition to the existing Soochow University on the mainland .

Locations

The university is spread over two locations. The main campus is located near the National Palace Museum in the northern Shilin District . All faculties are located there, except for the economics and law faculties, which are located on the downtown campus in the Zhongzheng District .
