Soosan Firooz

Soosan Firooz (also Susan Feroz, * 1989 in Afghanistan ) is an Afghan actress and rapper . She is the first female rapper in Afghanistan . It questions social norms and the traditional role of Afghan women.

biography

Firooz was born in Afghanistan . Her family fled the country and lived in an Iranian refugee camp for seven years during the Afghan civil war . In Iran, she was attacked by Iranians and was unable to go to school regularly due to bureaucratic entanglements. Her family then spent three years as refugees in Pakistan.

After the fall of the Taliban , the Firooz family returned to Afghanistan. They moved to Kandahar in 2003 , where their father found a job. Firooz worked with her siblings and wove carpets. The family moved to Kabul in 2011 , where she played small roles in local television soap operas and films as an actress.

Firooz asked her father, Abdul Ghafar Firooz, for permission to rap. She became aware of the Afghan musician Farid Rastagar , who promoted her and composed her first single. Firooz raps on Dari . Her first single Our Neighbors was released in 2012. The song reflects the plight of Afghan refugees. Her song "Naqisul Aql" means "mentally disturbed" and is an expression used against women in Afghanistan.

Firooz lives with her family in North Kabul. She was threatened with acid attacks, kidnapping, and death. Her mother, who does social work in southern Afghanistan, was also threatened with death. Her father quit his job and acts as her manager and bodyguard accompanying her to the studios. Her uncle broke up with her family because he disapproved of Firooz singing on television.

Firooz performed at a three-day music festival in Kabul in October 2012.
