Sophia Mercedes Burtscher

Sophia A. Mercedes Burtscher (born August 24, 1990 in Bregenz , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian theater and film actress and musician.

Career

After completing school in Bregenz, Burtscher studied comparative literature and theater, film and media studies in Vienna between 2008 and 2013 . She graduated from the latter in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts . During this time she was involved in many theater productions both on and behind the stage. From 2010 to 2011 she was a member of the student project at the Junge Burg am Burgtheater.

In 2013 she moved to Salzburg to study acting at the Mozarteum University (Thomas Bernhard Institute for Acting and Directing). This was followed by an Erasmus stay at Goldsmiths University in London , where she studied in the Department of Theater and Performance.

Before graduating from Salzburg, she went to the Schauspiel Köln at the beginning of 2016 and has been a member of the ensemble there ever since .

For their portrayals in Medea (directed by Robert Borgmann ), Die Räuber (directed by Ersan Mondtag ) and Wonderland Ave. (Director: Ersan Mondtag) she was nominated as a young actress in 2019.

Others

Sophia Burtscher has been part of the band Trope Ashes since 2016. She founded this together with her friend Tom Müller and has already released several albums and EPs. Together with friends they also founded the collective MIRANDA5 during their studies.
