Sophie von Sachsen-Lauenburg (* before 1444; † September 9, 1473 ) was a princess of Sachsen-Lauenburg and duchess and from 1456 until her death she was regent of the duchies of Jülich and Berg , as well as Countess of Ravensberg .

Life

Sophie was the daughter of Duke Bernhard II of Saxony-Lauenburg († 1463) from his marriage to Adelheid († after 1445), daughter of Duke Bogislaw VIII of Pomerania .

In 1444 she married Duke Gerhard VIII von Jülich-Berg , Count von Ravensberg (1416 / 7–1475). Around 1456 Gerhard fell into mental derangement and Sophie took over the business of government in the duchy for her first-born son.

After the slander of Sophies by Friedrich von Sombreff, Sophie's sons besieged Tomburg and conquered it in 1470. During the siege, the Reichenstein monastery caught fire, which Sophie then had to rebuild.
