The Sore Thumb (English for miracle thumb ) is a 1400 m high and striking rock needle in the East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Convoy Range it rises 50 m above the summit of the Elkhorn Ridge east of the topside glacier .
The New Zealand geologist Christopher J. Burgess, who worked in this area between 1976 and 1977, named it as Sore Thumb Stack (English for miracle thumb pile ). The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee later shortened this name.
