Soret gang

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Soret band is the most intense band in the visible range of the absorption spectra of porphyrins . It lies in the blue wavelength range and is named after its discoverer Jacques-Louis Soret , who first discovered and described it in diluted blood. It is an important tool in the absorption spectroscopy of porphyrins, which include heme and chlorophyll .

The absorption maximum depends on the polarity of the solvent. In the same solvent, different chlorophylls such as chlorophyll a, b or bacteriochlorophyll a can be distinguished by the characteristic wavelength of the absorption maximum and the molar extinction coefficient .
