The village Sotiras ( Greek Σωτήρας ( m. Sg. )) Forms together with Skala Sotiros a local community with 395 inhabitants in the northwest of the Greek island Thasos . 19 of them live in Sotiras itself and 376 in Skala Sotiros (2011). Sotiras is said to have been founded by residents of Kallirachi . The place name comes from the church Metamorfosis Sotiros (Transfiguration of the Savior) built there. Noteworthy are the Byzantine chapel Analipsi , about 3 kilometers by road to OSE, and the women's monastery Iera Moni Agiou Pandeleimonos , about 7 kilometers of mountainous road, to OSO.

Thasos

Greater importance reached Sotiras than 1,905 of lead, zinc and silver mining by the mining company Speidel Fr. The devastating forest fires in the west of the island in the summer of 1989 put the village and residents of Sotiras in great danger. The fires approached the village from the north, east and south and seized several buildings in the upper, eastern area. The population saved themselves with their animals on the road to Skala Sotiros (about 3.2 kilometers by road). In addition to the pine forest, extensive olive trees were also burned.

In the last few decades, dilapidated and burned down houses have been renovated and rebuilt. Some are offered as vacation rentals.
