The Soufrière River ( French la Soufrière , German: sulfur river ) is a river on the west coast of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia . The name refers to the sulfur deposits on the island's volcanoes.

geography

The river has its source in the center of the island in the Migny area . The Spyke Falls (St. Philipp, ) are located on the upper reaches . In a curvy course, it first flows to the northwest and receives tributaries from the Toraille Falls ( , from the right and north) and the Diamond Falls (from the left and south). Then it finally turns west and separates the town of Soufrière from the Fond Beniere area . A part of the river above the city was canalized and its course was relocated in 1972 and relocated again in 1994. It flows into the Caribbean Sea in Soufrière in Soufrière Bay (Anse Soufrière) .
