The bourbon rose souvenir de la Malmaison , syn. 'Queen of Beauty and Fragrance', was crossed by Jean Béluze in 1843 from the variety 'Madame Desprez' and an unknown tea rose. It is also known as the queen of the bourbon roses and was chosen among the classic roses as the world rose .
It is named in memory of the rose garden of Empress Joséphine near Paris.
The four-part, cream-pink-colored, strongly tea rose-like scented flowers of 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' continue to bloom from the beginning of June until the end of the season in autumn. It is moderately frost hardy, only grows about 1 m high and can be planted like a floribunda rose. Persistent periods of rain make the buds suffer as they bloom.
The breeder brought out a red sport 'Souvenir de la Malmaison Rouge' (syn. Leveson Gover) in 1893 and a climbing pink and white sport 'Climbing Souvenir de la Malmaison' was also introduced by Henry Bennett (rose breeder) in 1893.
