history

On August 28, 1927, the Communist Youth Association of Korea (KJVK) was founded. Kim Il Sung (1912-1994), who later became head of state and party of North Korea, was one of the numerous founding members. Today, August 28, the anniversary of the association's foundation in North Korea, is the official Youth Day .

On January 17, 1946, Kim Il Sung created the Democratic Youth Association of Korea (DJV). According to North Korean historiography, the DJV played an important role as the youth association of the PdAK in carrying out the socialist revolution in North Korea. During his school days, Kim Il Sung's son Kim Jong Il was active in the DJV, from September 1957 as the deputy chairman of the school committee of the DJV at the First Pyongyang Middle School.

In May 1964, the association was renamed the Association of Socialist Labor Youth of Korea (VSJAK). In October 1981 the VII Congress of the VSJAK took place. In 1989 the association held the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students in Pyongyang .

In January 1996 the association gave itself its name, which existed until August 2016, Socialist Youth Association "Kim Il-sung".

On the occasion of the 9th Congress of the Socialist Youth Association "Kim Il-sung" from August 27 to 28, 2016, the mass organization was renamed the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth Association (KKJV).
