The 4,189 m long Sozina Tunnel in southern Montenegro is the longest road tunnel in the country. It passes under the Paštrovići mountain range , which separates the Montenegrin Adriatic coast from the lowlands around Lake Skadar . The southern portal is near Sutomore on the Adriatic coast, while the northern portal is a few kilometers south of Virpazar at the foot of the Paštrovići Mountains.

construction

The cost of the tunnel was 70 million euros. It was opened on July 13, 2005, the Montenegrin national holiday, and has been subject to tolls since July 15. The toll booth is in front of the north portal.

meaning

As a direct connection between the port city of Bar and the Montenegrin capital Podgorica , the Sozina tunnel is an important component of the Montenegrin transport system and drastically shortens the travel time between the two cities compared to the up to 805 meter high pass road.
