Spacenet Award
The SpaceNet Award is a German literature and image award. It is awarded every two years.
description
The SpaceNet Award honors short stories and photographs. The winners are determined by a three-person picture and a three-person text jury on the basis of competition entries. In addition to the three main prizes, a young talent prize has also been awarded in each of the two categories of literature and photography since 2016. The best 30 pictures and stories will be published in a book by the in-house publisher. The prize money totaling 6,200 euros is donated by SpaceNet AG .
history
The SpaceNet Award was first presented in 2013 by SpaceNet AG as part of a creative competition and was presented on May 16, 2014 at a gala in the Munich Wappenhalle. The gala was moderated by Regina Meier and, in addition to the award ceremony, included speeches by Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger and Professor Dr.-Ing. habil. Horst Zuse . In addition, SpaceNet founder Sebastian von Bomhard was awarded the Internet pillar prize by the Eco - Association of the Internet Industry for his long-term commitment to helping to shape the Internet . SpaceNet, founded in 1993, is one of the first independent full-service internet providers in Germany. The SpaceNet Award was launched on the occasion of the company's twentieth anniversary and has been awarded every two years since then.
In the first year of its existence, the creative competition for the SpaceNet Award had the motto We earth the cloud , based on the company's motto, whose product portfolio includes a cloud service with increased data protection and security requirements for companies. In addition to the short story category , both photographs and other image formats such as drawings, comics, etc. were expressly permitted in the picture category .
The announcement of the SpaceNet Award was preceded in the summer of 2013 by a pupil painting competition limited to Bavaria on the subject of clouds . The winning pictures were printed in the cloud calendar 2014 , the proceeds of which went to the German Child Protection Association .
The second creative competition, which was launched in 2015, broke away from the products and company content of SpaceNet AG, which was also made clear in the tender text: “With our current motto, What works when nothing works? , we consciously go one step further to underline that our award should have a lot to do with art now and in the future, but nothing at all with SpaceNet and the IT industry. ”The invitation to tender in the image category was now open limited the field of photography .
competition
The condition for participation in the competition in the short story category is that it must be a previously unpublished work in German and must not exceed a length of around 10,000 characters. The genre is freely selectable. In the photography category , it also applies that it must be a previously unpublished work. Employees of SpaceNet AG are excluded from participating in the creative competition. The submission is made anonymously via upload by the deadline for submission on the SpaceNet Awards website. The next competition will be announced in 2019, the next award is planned for 2020.
