According to the 2016 company report, SpaceNet AG conducts research in the areas of digital market trends and product innovations. One of the research focuses in 2016 was on further increasing the user-friendliness of the product and service range. One of the measures is to increase flexibility in the provision of virtualized resources (cloud pool). This should enable customers to independently provision virtual machines on the basis of a resource quota. At the end of 2016, a new entry-level product was developed in the area of dedicated servers. A high level of standardization resulted in a significant cost reduction.

In addition to internal research and development work, SpaceNet AG also cooperates with research institutions, clusters and companies and participates in scientific IT projects. As part of the INTERREG VA program Austria-Bavaria 2014-2020 , SpaceNet AG acted as a technical service provider within the project "Sustainable residential locations". The aim of the project is to develop an IT-supported decision-making aid for the sustainable choice of residential location.

The European judges now have to decide whether the German regulation, which provides for a compulsory and comprehensive storage of traffic and location data for all users, is compatible with the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
