SpamPal is a free open source - spam filter for Microsoft Windows . The program works as a local proxy or as a server in a network, via which the e-mail is loaded from the e-mail program using the POP3 or IMAP protocols , and is compatible with all common mail programs.

The e-mails are classified in the basic program using local black and whitelists as well as realtime blackhole lists (DNSBLs) on the Internet such as SpamCop, Spamhaus or Fiveten. In addition, SpamPal also has a number of plug-ins that enable further filter options and thus increase the detection rate. In addition to a simple word filter (Bad Words plug-in) and a plug-in for using regular expressions (RegExFilter), a Bayesian spam filter is also available for download. In addition to the filter plug-ins, there are a large number of other plug-ins and add-ons that expand the functionality of the program.

SpamPal was developed by James J. Farmer. The development has stagnated since 2005.

reception

In 2005 Hendric Wehr rated First Aid for Windows XP: This is how you solve problems yourself! SpamPal as one of “the best spam killers ever”. However, he pointed out that “its configuration is not exactly easy for inexperienced users”. Netzwelt said in 2006 that the program was a well-functioning spam filter for private use. In the Computerbild test in 2007, special anti-spam software such as SpamPal and Norton Antispam performed worse than e-mail programs such as Windows Vista Mail.
