Spark SRT_05e
The Spark SRT_05e , often also Gen2 Formula E Car or Gen2 Car for short , is an electric racing car that was designed for the FIA Formula E Championship . It is the second vehicle model in the series and the successor to the Spark-Renault SRT_01E . It has been in use since the 2018/19 FIA Formula E Championship , the fifth season of the series. The vehicle was presented to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018.
development
Like its predecessor, the Spark SRT_05e is a joint production of various manufacturers under the Spark Racing Technology merger under the direction of Frédéric Vasseur , a co-founder of ART Grand Prix . The name is made up of the abbreviation of the company name SRT , the project number 05 (for the fifth season of the FIA Formula E championship) and an e for "electric".
Dallara developed the chassis of the racing car, McLaren Applied Technologies (MAT), a subsidiary of the McLaren Technology Group , developed the battery technology. MAT is collaborating with Sony , which provides the cell technology, and Lucid Motors , which is responsible for the design and management software, to develop the battery .
Technology and performance
Since with the introduction of the SRT_05e in the FIA Formula E Championship, there is no need to change vehicles at half-time, the battery capacity has been increased to 54 kilowatt hours.
Several manufacturers are developing a drive train for the vehicle, the maximum power is limited by the regulations to 250 kW in qualifying and 200 kW in the race.
In contrast to most other formula racing cars , the SRT_05e does not have a rear wing . The required contact pressure on the rear axle is instead generated via a large diffuser . Another special feature of the vehicle are the wheels, which are not free-standing but are almost completely enclosed.
Like all formula racing cars from the FIA series introduced since 2018, the SRT_05e also has a Halo system . The first concept vehicle was still equipped with a glass cover reminiscent of a pilot's cockpit on a fighter aircraft .
Production and Price
The SRT_05e is given to the teams at a unit price of 567,300 euros. This amount consists of 299,600 euros for the chassis, 200,000 euros for the battery, 12,700 euros for the Halo system and 55,000 euros administration fee.
If the vehicle is not used with a self-developed drive train, it must be purchased from a manufacturer at a price of 250,000 euros.
