Frédéric Vasseur

Frédéric Vasseur (born May 28, 1968 in Draveil , Ile-de-France ) is a French motorsport engineer and manager with a long career as a manager in formula racing . He is currently the team boss of the Sauber F1 Formula 1 racing team .

Career

Vasseur studied aerospace engineering before starting his own ASM team in Formula 3 . Known for his success and his talent development, he finally switched to Formula 1 as race director and finally as team manager for Renault F1 . He left the team in 2016 because there were discrepancies between him and team management about the future of the team.

Vasseur founded the ASM team in 1996, which, in collaboration with Renault, ran the French Formula 3 championship with David Saelens in 1998 and the Formula 3 Euro Series championships with Mercedes-Benz with Jamie Green , Lewis Hamilton , Paul di Resta and Romain Grosjean won. In 2004, Vasseur and Nicolas Todt merged and founded ART Grand Prix . The team's drivers have won the title in the GP2 series four times : Nico Rosberg ( 2005 ), Lewis Hamilton ( 2006 ), Nico Hülkenberg ( 2009 ) and Stoffel Vandoorne ( 2015 ).

At the end of 2013, Vasseur founded Spark Racing Technology (SRT), which was awarded the contract by the FIA to build the first-generation chassis for the FIA Formula E championship , the Spark-Renault SRT 01E . The second generation chassis, the Spark SRT 05e , was also developed by SRT.

Vasseur became team boss of the newly established Renault Sport Formula 1 team in 2016 . However, he left the team at the end of the season after a dispute with managing director Cyril Abiteboul about the future of the team.

On July 12, 2017, it was announced that Vasseur had been appointed as managing director and CEO of Sauber Motorsport AG and as team boss of the Sauber Formula 1 racing team .
