As an institution under public law , the Sparkasse Lemgo is subject to the Sparkassengesetz NRW. The competent supervisory authority is the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) based in Bonn. The Sparkasse Lemgo is a member of the Sparkassenverband Westfalen-Lippe (SVWL) in Münster and through this the Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband e. V. (DSGV) in Berlin. The organs of the Sparkasse are the Board of Directors and the Board of Directors.

In the network business, Sparkasse Lemgo works together with Westdeutsche Landesbausparkasse, DekaBank , Provinzial NordWest Versicherungsgruppe, Lippische Landes-Brandversicherungsanstalt , neue leben Lebensversicherungs AG and Deutsche Leasing . In terms of total assets, Sparkasse Lemgo ranks 128th out of a total of 385 savings banks in the 2018 DSGV ranking. As of December 31, 2018, Sparkasse Lemgo's balance sheet total was EUR 3.1 billion. history

The Sparkasse Lemgo was established with effect from August 1st, 1977 through the merger of the Kreissparkasse Lemgo and the Sparkasse der Stadt Lemgo. The former Sparkasse der Stadt Lemgo was founded on November 1st, 1845 and the former Kreissparkasse Lemgo on April 1st, 1933. With effect from August 31, 2002, Sparkasse Lemgo took on Sparkasse Bad Salzuflen.
