The Spaten-Löwenbräu GmbH is a joint venture of the traditional breweries Spaten-Franziskaner-Brau GmbH and the Lowenbrau AG , based in Munich . In 2003 the Belgian Interbrew took over the group, which after further name changes in 2004 and 2008 is now called Anheuser-Busch InBev .

history

In 1997, Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu merged with the neighboring Löwenbräu to form the Spaten-Löwenbräu group. In 2003, the Spaten-Löwenbräu Group was sold to the Belgian Interbrew Group , the brewery properties remained with Gabriel Sedlmayr Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu KGaA , today Sedlmayr Grund und Immobilien KGaA.

In 2004 Interbrew merged with the Brazilian Companhia de Bebidas das Américas ( AmBev ) to form the InBev Group, the new number 1 (in terms of output) on the world market. In 2006 the historic Spaten brewhouse on Marsstraße was shut down due to insufficient occupancy; today it houses a visitor museum. The production of all Spaten and Franziskan beers will be continued by Löwenbräu in the remaining brewhouse on Nymphenburger Straße. In 2017 there was a plan to shut down the production of Löwenbräu in Nymphenburger Straße and relocate it again to Spaten in Marsstraße.

Products

The brewery produces beers of the brands Spatenbräu , Franziskaner and Löwenbräu , and Beck’s for export .
