A woodpecker damage is damage that woodpeckers on facades cause. Facades with what is known as a thermal insulation composite system are also affected. The woodpeckers also look for their food on house facades where insects, spiders or woodlice hang around . Because pecking on the thermal insulation composite system sounds as hollow as pecking on a hollow or insect-infested dry tree, they keep pecking because they are looking for food. The drumming is also used to mark the territory or to attract sexual partners (courtship behavior). Sometimes they create their nest holes in the insulation material under the plaster as if it were in rotten or old wood.

The hacking of nest boxes intended for tit protection is also to be taken under woodpecker damage, as well as the looting of the bird nests .
