The United States Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA) is a Sub Unified Combatant Command that unites and leads the Special Operations Forces of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM). SOCAFRICA is stationed at AFRICOM in the Kelley Barracks near Möhringen on the Fildern (Baden-Württemberg). Colonel Christopher K. Haas has been the commander of SOCAFRICA since August 24, 2009 .

history

After the AFRICOM regional command began its service on September 30, 2008 on the instructions of US President George W. Bush , a team from the US Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR) was tasked with planning and setting up a corresponding command for special forces for the area of responsibility of AFRICOM commissioned. The delegation worked closely with the sister commands of the other regional commands, such as the US Special Operations Command Pacific (SOCPAC), the US Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT) and the mother command of all US special forces, the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) , with the aim of optimal use of resources and provision of the necessary material and personnel.

The planning and the preparation of the operational readiness should be completed by March 31, 2009. It is not known to what extent SOCAFRICA is now operational.

In addition, SOCAFRICA has used Operation Observant Compass to support the Regional Task Force against the Lord's Resistance Army .
