The Spectrum Stadium (until 2017 Bright House Networks Stadium ) is a college football - stadium in the US city of Orlando in the state of Florida . It is located on the campus of the University of Central Florida (UCF) and will host the home games of college football teams from the University, the UCF Knights ( American Athletic Conference ). In addition, the stadium was briefly the home of the Orlando Apollos from the now insolvent Alliance of American Football .

The stadium was built in 2007 to replace the Orlando Citrus Bowl in Downtown Orlando, where the UCF Knights had played their home games since 1979.

history

In early 2005, a feasibility study for a football stadium on campus was carried out on behalf of the University of Central Florida. After this was concluded with a positive result, after some delays due to concerns of residents regarding falling property values and noise pollution, construction of the stadium, initially known as the UCF Stadium , began in March 2006 .

After a year and a half of construction, the stadium opened on September 15, 2007 with a football game between the UCF Knights and the Texas Longhorns .

From 2014 to 2015, the facility was renovated for 8 million US dollars .
