Sieverding store

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sieverding warehouse is the listed remnant of the former Sieverding lease in the Waltrup farming community in Altenberge in the Steinfurt district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The building is made of yellow sandstone , it is on Horstmarer Damm, which used to be the main traffic connection between the Netherlands and Münster. It originally stood on a small island to the west of the moat that surrounded the courtyard.

History and architecture

The Sieverding house was mentioned in a document in the 14th century. The owner of the fiefdom for the Sievering court sold the estate to the cathedral chapter of Münster in 1624. After the order was abolished in 1774, it was assigned to the study fund in Münster. This special fund is now owned by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the administration is the responsibility of the Rentamt in Münster. The State Building Department in Münster is responsible for maintaining the building. Originally, the granary stood on an island in the courtyard, which was surrounded by a closed system of ditches. The facility was accessed through the gatehouse in the southeast. To the north stood the large Bauhaus, which in 1976, after a serious fire on the grounds, had to give way when the courtyard was reorganized. The graves had long ago ceased to exist. The granary is isolated today, the former island location can only be guessed at. The cellar-free warehouse is three-story and crowned by a three-tier gable. The gable is made of rubble stones in the manner of the Münsterland and structured with ashlar. The eaves sides are bricked in quarry stone on the ground floor, the upper floors consist of half-timbering without overhangs. The building is structured by four window axes. The western brick wall is divided by three windows framed with sandstone walls, which were inserted later.

Directly under the billet-hipped roof there is a window in the middle, which was also used later. Originally, this west wall was built in half-timbered houses, as there are tap holes. The interior of the building does not correspond to the usual shape of larger storage facilities. A brick wall is set in a tub-like manner in front of the foundation, it extends as far as the window sills.
