The Spexard farmhouse is a monument used as a community center in the Spexard district of the East Westphalian district town of Gütersloh . It was built in 1536 and is therefore the oldest surviving structure in the city of Gütersloh (only the tower of the Apostle Church is older). Since it in 1993 to the Luke Street translocated was, it has become a landmark developed by Spexard.

history

The Spexard farmhouse was originally the main house of the Meier to Berens farm, first mentioned in 1370, one of five full inheritance farms in Spexard. This fell to Verl in 1583 , but with the municipal territorial reform in 1969 again to Spexard, which was incorporated into the city of Gütersloh.

The house is a mighty two- column building with brick infill and a utlucht-like porch, the oldest part of which, according to dendrochronological dating, was built in 1536. It was expanded in 1572 and completely renovated in 1781.

The farmhouse was originally located on Helmholtzstrasse, very close to the A 2 . At the end of the 1980s it was empty and should be demolished.

In 1990 the “Freundeskreis Spexarder Bauernhaus” was founded with the aim of saving the building from decay and creating a community center for the Spexard district. The city of Gütersloh bought the building, which had been privately owned until then. In an expert opinion, the Westphalian Office for the Preservation of Monuments classified the half-timbered house as one of the last testimonies to the rural past of Gütersloh and certified it as having a high monument value. On January 25, 1991, the farmhouse was entered in the Gütersloh monument list.

From August 1993 it was moved to Lukasstrasse because it could not be kept at its original location. In the course of these measures, the Utlucht , which was removed in 1974, was added again. On January 21, 1995, it was inaugurated by the Spexard associations and the population. The construction costs were 2.29 million Deutschmarks.

The house is owned by the city of Gütersloh, which covers the operating costs. The Spexard homeland association is responsible for the farmhouse in Spexard and is therefore the manager and has signed a contract with the city. The Spexard farmhouse is available to all associations, groups and parties in the city (not just in the district) for events with a local history, e.g. B. for lectures, concerts, readings or exhibitions. Private events such as B. the use as party decorations are excluded.

The square in front of the farmhouse was newly paved with cobblestone in 2007. In 2009, the St. Hubertus Spexard Schützenbruderschaft built an eleven-meter-long shed as a storage room in the immediate vicinity of the farmhouse.
