Spice 1 (born 1970 in Bryan , Texas ; real name Robert L. Green, Jr. ) is an American rap musician.

Career

Robert Green grew up in Oakland , California. He was discovered by the West Coast rapper Too Short, who came from there . With his debut album Let It Be Known , released in 1991 , which reached number 69 in the R&B / Hip-Hop charts, he was able to attract first attention. The second album, which bears his rapper name Spice 1 , made it to number 1 on the US Heatseekers charts and into the top 100 of the sales charts. The following album, 187 He Wrote , was number 1 on the R&B / Hip-Hop charts and his most successful album at number 10 on the Billboard 200 . "187" is the US Police Code for "murder". One of the gangster rappers, Spice 1 is known for his angry and pessimistic style. In addition to the violent lyrics, simulated shootings can also be heard on the album.

Album number four, AmeriKKKa's Nightmare , followed on from the previous two in terms of content and success. It was number 2 in the R&B / Hip-Hop charts and, like albums two and three, was awarded gold (500,000 records sold). The next two albums also reached the top 5 of the R&B and top 40 of the sales charts, but after that the great success subsided at the end of the 90s. He continues to release albums on an almost annual basis. There are also several albums with other artists such as gangster rapper MC Eiht . So far, Spice 1 has placed 12 albums in the R&B / Hip-Hop charts.
