The Spicher Hohlstein (Hollsteen) is a quartzite stone in the area of the Spich district of the city of Troisdorf in North Rhine-Westphalia . The stone is one of the natural monuments in the Rhein-Sieg district .

General

The part of the stone lying above ground is approx. 9 m long, 6 m wide and 4 m high, with cracks next to it. Most of the stone is hollow.

The current shape of the stone goes back to attempts to blast it during the French occupation in 1810. There are also numerous incisions and some damage from the recent past. The stone has long been an object of scientific research by archaeologists , geologists , historians and local historians , due to its size and shape. Some futurologists even saw the shape of the stone as a launch pad for astronauts in 1979 . Fairy tale researchers and storytellers report on various sagas , poems and legends about the stone.

A notice board nearby provides information about the natural monument. Another large quartzite block is just over a kilometer from the hollow stone in front of the Spicher Haus Broich .
