Spidroin 1 is a fiber protein from the silk of the spider Nephila clavipes . It is related to fibroin from the silkworm .

properties

Spidroin 1 occurs in all types of spider fibers. The middle part of the amino acid sequence consists of tandem repeats . It has the characteristic sequence motif glycine -glycine- tyrosine , like spidroin 2 . Spidroin 1 has dityrosine and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine as unusual amino acids , which are formed after translation through oxidation of the protein.
