from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Spindlersfeld rowing club was founded in Berlin-Spindlersfeld in 1878 and was one of the first rowing clubs in Berlin.

After Carl Spindler , the manager of the W. Spindler company , brought two sport rowing boats with him to Berlin from a business trip in England in the spring of 1878 for the purpose of company sports , a competition with a rowing society , the later rowing society , took place soon afterwards on September 2, 1878 “Borussia” , over 1500 meters on the Oberspree , which the Spindlersfeld boat won. A week later, the Spindlersfeld had to compete against the Berlin rowing club and won this race too. The Spindlersfeld rowing club was officially founded on September 12th .

On June 27, 1880, the three named clubs carried out the first regatta as the united rowing clubs of the Oberspree on the later regatta route Berlin-Grünau . The Spindlersfeld rowing club, along with the Berlin rowing club, was one of the four rowing teams that held one of the first city regattas in Germany on September 11, 1881. Because of this regatta, the Berlin Regatta Club was founded on September 21 of the same year .

Later the club was also called Spindlersfeld rowing club "Sturmvogel" , today it is called rowing club Berlin von 1878 e. V.
