Spiros Stathoulopoulos ( Greek Σπύρος Σταθουλόπουλος , * 1978 in Greece ) is a Greek- Colombian film director .

Life

Stathoulopoulos shot his first short film on video in Colombia, where he had emigrated with his parents, at the age of 14. At the age of 18 he returned to Greece to do his basic military service. He then went to Hollywood to perfect his knowledge of the film industry.

Stathoulopoulos first feature film was the uncut film PVC-1 from 2007. He took the same year in the competition for the Camera d'Or in Cannes at the 60th Film Festival at the Directors' Fortnight in part, as well as the International Film Festival Thessaloniki same Year. There he received two awards.

The director's love film Meteora from 2011 took part in the competition for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival 2012, the Berlinale . It wasn't until 2014 that a German film distributor was found to release the film in Germany with subtitles.

Honourings and prices

  • Special Jury Award Silver Alexander at the 18th Thessaloniki International Film Festival 2007 for PVC-1 .
  • FIPRESCI award at the same festival for the same film.
