The Roman Catholic Spitalkirche St. Nikolaus und St. Magdalena is a church in the city center of Hammelburg . It is one of the Hammelburg monuments and is registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-6-72-127-7 .

history

The Fulda abbot Heinrich von Hohenberg founded the citizen hospital in 1343. The church was built in 1404 for this purpose. During the great city fire in 1854, the hospital church burned down. The vaults then had to be renewed. As part of the restoration, the church received a new facade and a neo-Gothic roof turret . In 1972 the choir room was redesigned.

The choir is in the east, the ridge turret rises to the west above the entrance facade of the nave . The windows of the choir and nave are pointed arches without tracery . In the choir, they were recently designed by the Hammelburg painter Robert Höfling. Apart from a crucifix from the 18th century with traces of fire, nothing has survived from the furnishings before the town fire .

The bell was renewed after the fire in 1854 and has two bells.
