Spolu - občianska demokracia ( proper spelling : SPOLU ; German: together - citizen democracy ) is a liberal - conservative party in Slovakia . It was founded in 2018 and is a member of the EPP .
The founding of Spolu was announced on November 17, 2017. The party was by Miroslav Beblavý , a former economy minister and politician of the Conservative Party SIET , the deputy Jozef Mihál of the liberal Freedom and Solidarity established and the two deputies SIET Katarína Macháčková Simona Petrík. They spoke out against supporting the then ruling party SMER .
The party's founding congress was held in Poprad on April 14, 2018 . Miroslav Beblavý was elected as chairman, Katarína Macháčková, Erik Baláž and Jozef Mihál as deputies. In the local elections in November 2018, Spolu candidates won 16 of the 2904 mayor offices and 285 of the 20 646 seats in city and municipal councils. For the presidential election in March 2019 , Spolu did not put up a candidate of its own, but supported Zuzana Čaputová from the left-liberal party Progresívne Slovensko (PS), which ultimately won the election.
For the European elections in May 2019 , PS and Spolu formed an alliance that became the strongest force with 20.1% of the vote and received 4 of the 13 Slovak seats in the EU Parliament. Two of the seats went to members of Spolu - Vladimír Bilčík and Michal Wiezik - who join the Christian Democratic EPP Group . In the 2020 National Council election , Spolu and its alliance partner Progresívne Slovensko just failed to pass the 7 percent hurdle. In Slovakia, electoral alliances made up of several parties must win at least 7 percent of the vote in order to enter parliament.
