history

Association headquarters in Bissau

The association was founded on May 27, 1944 in what was then the Portuguese colony of Portuguese Guinea as a subsidiary of the traditional Portuguese club Benfica Lisbon .

The club only achieved its greatest successes after Guinea-Bissau gained independence in 1974.

In 1977 the club achieved its first win in the Campeonato Nacional da Guiné-Bissau , the country's top division. Since then, the club has won ten more state championships, making it the most successful club in the country after record champions Sporting Clube de Bissau (as of 2017).
