Jonathan Sanger

Jonathan Sanger (born April 21, 1944 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American director and film producer .

Life

Sanger attended the University of Pennsylvania , where he studied film at the Annenberg School of Communications. Then he joined the Peace Corps . In the mid-1970s he was able to gain a foothold in the film business, initially on the film staff as assistant director and as a production manager. He first worked at Höhenkoller with Mel Brooks in 1977 . It was also Brooks who provided him with significant financial support through his company Brooksfilms in the production of his first film as a producer, The Elephant Man . David Lynch's drama was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture . While the Oscar went to The Winner's Hour in 1981 , it won the BAFTA Film Award . Up until 2005, Sanger and Brooks made several other joint productions, including The Producers . For the short film Ray’s Male Heterosexual Dance Hall , Sanger received an Oscar in 1988 in the category of best short film . Other well-known Hollywood productions from Sanger include The Others , Vanilla Sky and Mission: Impossible II . As a film director he only appeared once, in 1985 he directed the World War II action film code name: Emerald with Ed Harris , Max von Sydow and Horst Buchholz in the leading roles. From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, he directed various television productions, including episodes from Twin Peaks and SeaQuest . From 2010 he also worked as a Broadway producer.
