The Rauschwalde sports hall is a multi-purpose sports hall in Görlitz , which is primarily designed for handball.

location

The sports hall is located in the Rauschwalde district in the immediate vicinity of the Rauschwalde Oberschule on Diesterwegplatz. There is also a bus terminus for city bus routes B and N here . To the south of the hall is a small green area with a pond and the Landskronsiedlung .

history

The Ulberhalle was previously located at the current location of the sports hall . The hall was built in GDR times and was named after the anti-fascist Erhard Ulber. However, it had to be blocked in 2002 for security reasons. For a few years it was used as an ice rink by the operator Eisdom Freizeitanlagen Betriebsgesellschaft mbH Leipzig in the autumn and winter months. It was finally demolished in May 2006.

On March 1st, 2007 the groundbreaking ceremony for the new hall took place. The foundation stone was laid on April 17th and the topping-out ceremony on June 14th of the same year. The new hall was finally opened on December 30, 2007 after a construction period of 10 months. The guest at the opening was the native Görlitz national handball player Lars Kaufmann , who was already training in the Ulberhalle. The architect who planned and supervised the construction of the new hall was Michael Noack.

The new building cost a total of around 3.3 million euros. The Free State of Saxony took over around 1.3 million euros with a grant. The club part built on the west side alone cost 379,000 euros. SV Koweg Görlitz took over 23,000 euros of this and contributed 31,000 euros in-house.

Furnishing

The sports hall offers space for 199 spectators. There are 118 seats and 81 standing places. The playing field is laid out according to the regulations of the International Handball Federation (IHF). The usable sports area is 968 square meters. The entire building with changing, sanitary and ancillary rooms has a floor area of 22 by 44 meters.

use

Around 650 primary, middle and special school students from Rauschwalde use the new hall for physical education. The secondary school is located in the immediate vicinity of the hall. The primary school and the speech therapy school are located in the school building at Paul-Taubadel-Straße 3. The students previously used the Hagenwerder sports center, to which a shuttle service was set up. Furthermore, SV Koweg Görlitz uses the hall for training and competitions in handball, volleyball, soccer and indoor hockey.
