The Sporting Clube de Bafatá , usually just called Sporting de Bafatá or SC Bafatá , is a sports club from the Guinean city ​​of Bafatá . He is particularly known for his soccer team .

history

The club was founded in 1937 in the city of Bafatá in what was then the Portuguese colony of Portuguese Guinea as a branch club of the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon , where it is not run as an official branch club.

The club only achieved its greatest successes after Guinea-Bissau gained independence in 1974.

In 1987 the club achieved its first win at the Campeonato Nacional da Guiné-Bissau , the country's top division. In 2008 he was able to win the title again (as of 2017).

With the championship in 2008, the club qualified for the first time for the African Champions League . However, he could not play his first game against Club Africain Tunis due to lack of funds and withdrew his team from the CAF Champions League 2009 .

The club has not yet won the national cup Taça Nacional da Guiné-Bissau . He made it to the final once, where he lost 3-1 to the capital city club Mavegro Futebol Clube in 2002 .
